#ToMB 2: Tomb Harder

Tale of Malifaux Bloggers: Season 2

All the way back in time to 2014 Chris King and Dave Chandler, both big members of the Malifaux community at the time decided that it would be cool to do a Malifaux version of the Tale of Gamers style articles in White Dwarf magazines past.

I don't feel like I should really have to explain to concept, this blog has had the original ToMB and also "A Knight's Tale" on here, however:

  • Each participant picks a faction (master in the case of ToMB)
  • Each participant gets an "allowance" each month.
  • Each participant can spend up to that allowance and save any excess.
  • Each month the participants should paint and show off their months spending finished.
  • Also each month each participant speaks about their thoughts and what they are learning.
    • This may be games
    • Tactics
    • Painting and hobby ideas
    • Traditionally this also had ways of saving cash
  • All this would run for a set amount of months, usually four to six.
I want to bring the Tale of Malifaux Bloggers back.

My Rules

  • Month one each player gets £40/$60 to start their Tale
  • Months two to four players will get £15
  • If enough participants would like to continue a fifth and sixth month will happen (at £15)
  • Each month players must have their purchases built and painted or we will give them a forfeit.
    • Forfeit decided later, probably donations to WAAC
    • There will be an (fairly obvious) allowance if someone somehow overloads on model
  • This is meant to be building on a budget, so all though basing materials, glue etc. will not be included in spending it should probably be mentioned.
  • Each participant must blog their photos, what they have learnt etc.
      • Minimum 1 blog a month
      • Anyone without their own blogs I will host.
The big difference between this and the first is that originally we used an RRP dollar amount.
I personally didn't care about that, most people would like to promote good retailers who give them discount, they are not hard to find.

**Important note: If you are one of those hobbyists with unopened stuff lying around this is an excuse for you, price wise allocate what you spent or would do typically.**

Also the original ToMB had a "not really enforced" painting aspect which was, at the very least, confusing.

Some of my original ToMB blogs were no photos of painting and just "yeah, I bought some stuff".
This isn't really the point in mind.

These rules are an outlay and I will post a clearer set of rules nearer the time.

Please, if you have suggestions tweet me @psientologist or leave a message in the comments section.

I want to start this soon, let me know by February 2nd with the first deadline being March 9th, deadlines will typically be one week into the month, get started now if you like.

Hope a few of you are excited about the idea of joining in and feel free to check out the completed Claw and Fang and failed Dark Debts tales on this blog.

    1. ...did my comment disappear?

Is the deadline of March 9th when you have to paint the $60 by? That seems aggressive compared to ~$25 for each subsequent month.

    2. It is, first month is a trial by fire really. The $60 doesn't have to be fully spent, but is mostly there so you can grab a crew box to start.
Also, if you do want to join you've got some time to start ahead now.

      1. I'll be following along, but won't be able to participate. Out of the country starting Friday until mid-Feb, leaving me 2 weeks to do the $60. >.<

That's ok, I don't need an excuse to paint a new crew. :P

    4. Likewise as I mentioned on Twitter, I'm new to Malifaux but this seems ideal to sign up to do and get me building/painting and playing!

    5. I'm interested. @BraxJaxon on Twitter and my blog is http://thenationofprocrasti.blogspot.co.uk

I'll be using Arcanists. Mainly stuff I've already got but not done anything with, but I have the prices paid in most cases.
