The May Feng Report

This is maybe the third or forth thing I have started to write about May Feng.
For a single day event I have so much stuff I have wanted to cover, the social side, the lead up, tournament organising and the event itself.

This article will be about the fun facts and numbers from the event, including the results themselves.
Several shout-outs to the winner, losers and generally all the players.

The Attendance

May Feng when first announced aimed for twenty eight players, this is the magic number for rankings and my previous event September's Curse 2014 ended up with twenty two which would mean a 27% increase in attendance.

I then decided to then push it to thirty two players, a 45% increase in capacity if this was hit.

Tickets went on sale all the way back on November 4th 2014 and were sold out, eleven days later on the 15th.

Around the end of April, I noticed the interest list was very long and didn't even include many names I know said they were interested in real life or via twitter.
I then made a big push.
Forty Players.

At one point, even with some drop outs the list hit thirty nine.

Unfortunately, a few people here and there had to drop from the event, commitments and life things in the way meant that the big forty target was not getting hit but in the end we had thirty players.

Eight more players than my previous event, 36% increase in attendance.

Popping Cherries

One of the more exciting things as a tournament organiser is knowing that your event for some is their first experience of a Malifaux tournament.

Three attendees, 10% of the field, popped their Malifaux tournament cherry at May Feng.
The highest finisher of which was Ross Hill coming in at 13th.

There were also plenty of people who were making this their second event, a lot of people who had played at Gertfaux in Bristol or Here be Dragons (I assume in Cardiff).

Faction Breakdown

May Feng was actually a fixed master event, but with the first round of four being henchman lead and to not give dual faction masters a huge advantage each player had to announce a faction at the beginning of the day.

Neverborn were by far the most represented with a third of the field.
Ten Thunders only had Graham Bursnell flying the Orange banner on the day, which would give him a "default" best in faction prize, but one that who would still definitely earn over the day.

Master Breakdown

Nineteen unique masters were chosen by the players at May Feng.

Out of all the masters taken, Lilith, Nicodem, Zoraida and Perdita were the most popular with three players fielding them each.

The only dual-faction of which was Zoraida which did see two as Neverborn and one as Gremlin fielded by Dom Westerland.

Tara was the only other dual-faction master taken in a multiple but both players elected to field her as Resurrectionist.

As a note. No player took the tournaments pun namesake master Mei Feng (this made me sad).

Also, not a confirmed fact but of all the henchman chosen for the first round of the event it seemed that the most popular was Candy.

Faction Finishes

After the first round, which was Henchman lead.
Ten Thunders (Blutack) had the best average placing for the faction in 8th.
Ressers were the best faction after first round with more than one player, being around 12th.
Neverborn were close behind in 13th on average.
Arcanists were the worst with 23rd as their average.

By the end of the event.
Blutack retained the Thunders the best average with his 7th place finish.
Ressers would fall down to 16th on average.
Neverborn would go up to 10th on average. Not a surprise with the podium being all purple.

Master Finishes

Luke Cocksedge finishing in 2nd would give Collodi the best average finish as his only player.
Worst single lead master would be Lucius but the worst of the masters taken in threes and overall would be Perdita.
Best Master taken in multiples would be, Lilith thanks to some huge finishes.

An interesting thing to note is that the two Seamus players finished dead centre of the pack in 15th and 16th.

I hope that you enjoyed this little number based blog
The results could also cough out a lot of other numbers but these are just a few of the most interesting.

Thanks for reading.
