Tale of Malifaux Bloggers: Month Zero
What is the Tale of Malifaux Bloggers?
To answer this, I will simply direct you to the left, though if you are on mobile I'd click on these links to either the ToMB blog or IamSSSK's blog.
Chris and Dave have got together with a few of the other regular Malifaux bloggers, for us all to partake in a little challenge.
As a brief description, the challenge, is as follows.
- Start a new Malifaux crew, a new master
- Keep to some spending restrictions
- Blog each month about why you have bought what you have bought
- Blog what you have learnt, be it painting or gaming
That's about it, as I said, check out the links previously for more precise rules.
The aim though is to "learn together" as such, also, help show people how easy it can be to start a Malifaux crew and work it up to something that is quite competitive... well hopefully.
What Master did you choose?
Well, if you've listened to a certain podcast, you may have heard (timing spoilers is hard), but I am sticking with Arcanists.
Boring right?
Wrong!
I'm going with the favourite master of one of #ToMB's parents (Dave/sssk).
The man, the legend.
Marcus
Now technically, I could be considered cheating, I own Marcus, I've played with him, but the key thing is.
I haven't this edition.
I have only ever played with Marcus in the 1.5 days, I also had never used anything that his starter box comes with bar the Jackalope.
Throughout M2E bar some beta testing, I've stuck to Mei Feng and Ramos.
I've played a game or 2 using Myranda and a lot of cats (Meowlifaux) where she really wasn't used much.
In fact, I've played more games with Nicodem than her.
So, why Marcus?
Master of Beasts
The answer, is in 2 parts.
First of all, gaming.
I am hugely intrigued by him this edition, the changes he has had from 1.5 to 2e from what I can read are very cool, interesting and quite simply, better.
I love the flexibility his Limited upgrades seem to bring. He also may fill some roles better than Mei, Ramos or Rasputina (who I've played a little) can.
The updates to his crew and the addition of one big angry monkey also help a lot and finally in this first part, he completes the wave 1 masters for me.
Secondly, it's painting.
The irony of me running #MFXTOP is that I am yet to have painted any of my own Malifaux miniatures at all.
Now, it's not simply a case that, I can't, I don't want to or I'm plain awful. I just... haven't.
I want to though, the miniatures, especially the newer plastics, hugely inspire me, I love them.
Also, if I go to a tournament, I do not want to come without painted miniatures.
I sure as hell cannot afford commission work and for the most part, I don't want to.
To clarify, I have done painting.
"Photos or it didn't happen!"
I realise grabbing old phone photos isn't great...
I did the table as well as the minis...
and I think this was that last thing I worked on.
But, this is the issue.
I haven't painted a miniature in at least 6 months, maybe longer by the time I start #ToMB
Marcus, allows me to get back on the painting train, with a nice variation of miniatures, a fair few of which are large.
Arguably, I can afford to mess up my Razorspine Rattler or Cerberus, because actually, I may buy seconds.
I have some conversion ideas too.
There we have it...
All in all, Marcus ticks a few boxes for me as a project that I like.
I hope that not only will this be a fun learning experience which I can share with you, the reader, but also that it will inspire me to get back into a side of the hobby I've become distant from.
It might mean I pucker up the courage to paint my true love, Mei Feng.
Or even finish some other non-malifaux related projects like this
what the hell is going on here?
Cheers again guys for reading, don't forget to check out the links to other blogs I have, now including one by my friend George McStocker, though, it is about 'stopes...
BYEEEEE
